Chelsea won the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League, beating Benfica 2-1 in the final. It was the second year in a row that the Blues had won a major European trophy, having won the UEFA Champions League the previous season. The result meant that Chelsea became the first club to hold both major UEFA titles at the same time, the first English club to win all three major UEFA competitions (European Champion Clubs' Cup/UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League), and only the fourth club in history to do so.

Having finished in third place in UEFA Champions League Group E, Chelsea entered the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League at the Round of 32 stage.
