Pre-Chelsea career

Daniel joined Chelsea at Under-12 level.

Chelsea career

Daniel was a regular captain of Chelsea’s Under-16 and Under-18 teams, making his Under-18 debut aged 13.

He suffered an horrendous knee injury in early 2008 which kept him out until the start of 2009. He returned to fitness and made his Under-18 bow late in the season, before becoming an Under-18 regular for 2009-10.

With problems at centre-back, he became an immediate regular in the academy team in 2009. Looking more and more accomplished with each passing game, he impressed the club enough to earn a call-up to the reserve squad whilst still aged just 15. Not only was he impressive on debut in marking Scottish international Chris Iwelumo, he followed it up with his first goal at that level against Stoke.

As a first-year scholar in 2010-11, Daniel trained almost exclusively with the reserve team, but featured in the FA Youth Cup side, taking over the captaincy from Conor Clifford. Injuries continued to blight his career in the 2011 calendar year as he missed out on the national Reserve League final as well as much of the first half of the 2011-12 season.

When he returned in early 2012, he suffered another serious knee injury in the FA Youth Cup tie away to Norwich sidelined him for much of the year, returning in October. After taking a while to return to full match fitness, he put together a consistent run of games late in the season for the first time in over two years.

A loan spell to Colchester United for the first half of the 2013-14 season promised much, but with yet more injuries (and a red card) preventing him from making further progress, the deal was cut short in November. He joined Kingstonian on loan for the last ten weeks of the season and proved a success for the Surrey club as they went close to securing promotion.

He was released at the end of his contract in June 2014.

International

Daniel was named in the provisional Ghana Under-20 squad for the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, having never previously been courted by the Black Stars. He made the final party but was cut on the eve of the tournament amid apparent concerns of injury.
