Before Chelsea

Davies started his career at local side Merthyr Tydfil F.C., before moving to Fulham in 1978. He spent six years at Craven Cottage before making the short move across SW6 to Chelsea in 1984.

Chelsea career

Signed for £90,000, Davies scored on his debut; a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on 8 December. He would go on to score a further four goals before the end of the year, including a hat-trick against Everton in a 4-3 win at Goodison Park. He opened the scoring once more in a home game against Manchester United on 29 December, but the Blues eventually lost 3-1. Despite his impressive start at Chelsea, Davies' time at the club coincided with that of several attacking talents, including Kerry Dixon and David Speedie, and it proved difficult for the Welshman to cement his place in the side. He would be utilised as cover for the remainder of his spell at Stamford Bridge, making just eight further appearances in the latter half of the season, two of which were as a substitute.

After Chelsea

A few weeks into the 1985-86 season Davies signed for Manchester City for a fee of £75,000. He made his debut for City on 12 October 1985 against Watford, and scored a hat-trick two days later in a 6-1 victory over Leeds United in the Full Members Cup. Davies found his opportunities limited following the departure of manager Billy McNeill however, and he re-joined Fulham in October 1986, after one year in Manchester.

He remained at Fulham for the next five years, becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer with a record across his two spells of 159 league goals in 394 appearances. Following short spells at Wrexham and Northwich Victoria he retired from playing in 1993.

After retiring Davies became a pest control officer for Rentokil. As of 2011 he was running his own pest control company in Northamptonshire while working in corporate hospitality at Fulham games. [1]

International

Davies won 16 caps for Wales over a six and a half year period, scoring two goals. He made his Wales debut on 21 November 1979 against Turkey, and his last game for his country was against the Republic of Ireland on 26 March 1986.
