Gulf Air is the principal flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain and was Chelsea's first ever shirt sponsor, in 1983. The deal with the Bahraini airline lasted one season; Chelsea's shirts not carrying a sponsor for the following two seasons, before Grange Farm became the second shirt sponsor in 1986.
