James Shaw "Jim" Thomson (born 1 October 1946 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former defender who played for Chelsea in the mid-1960s. Having earlier played for local Glasgow side Provenside Hibernian, he made his debut for the Blues as a 19-year-old towards the end of the 1965-66 season. He appeared regularly during 1966-67 season and scored the only goal of his Chelsea career against Burnley at Turf Moor, a side he would join in September 1968 for £40,000, having played his last game for Chelsea on 4 May 1968; exactly two years after his debut. Despite struggling to establish himself in the first team initially he went on to make 361 appearances for Burnley, a club with which he would continue to be associated following retirement from playing.
