Like his older brother Sam Tillen, Joe joined Chelsea as a youngster and progressed to earn a scholarship in 2002.
Chelsea career
Joe was a regular for the club's Under-18 team and more latterly the Reserve side but left the club in 2005 as a free agent.

Post Chelsea Career
Joe moved onto the MK Dons upon leaving Chelsea but failed to play any considerable football at the club. In 2008 he joined his brother in Iceland, playing for Fram, where he helped them qualify for the Europa League. He has since played for Selfross and Valur.
