Jonathan joined Chelsea as an Under-8.
Chelsea career
It took Jonathan a little while to get going as a scholar, as various circumstances limited him to just nine appearances in his first full-time season with the club. He became a regular in the team in 2018-19, making 23 appearances in a mostly deep-lying midfield role. Upon graduation to the Development Squad in 2019-20, he moved further forward and often played as an attacking midfielder, a role in which he began to thrive, and scored three goals in 14 appearances under the management of Andy Myers.
A bright start to 2020-21 saw him join Accrington Stanley on loan in October, with the transfer window open later due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He impressed in spells there while also suffering through injuries, but left Chelsea at the end of his contract in July 2021, signing for Huddersfield Town.
