Michael Ballack (born 26 September 1976, in Görlitz) is a midfielder and former captain of the German national team who played for Chelsea between 2006 and 2010. After signing on a free transfer in 2006, Ballack appeared regularly for Chelsea in various midfield roles, making over 150 appearances, and in addition to being part of the 2009-10 double-winning side, won the FA Cup on two other occasions and the League Cup once. After leaving Chelsea in the summer of 2010 upon the expiry of his contract, Ballack joined Bayer Leverkusen on a 2 year deal.
