Chelsea first met Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League group stage, the Blues winning 4-0 home and away on their way to topping the group. The away match was played at the Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa, 60 miles north of Tel Aviv, as it had over double the capacity of Maccabi Tel Aviv's Bloomfield Stadium.
